Wilderness Camping

The Adirondack Forest Preserve in the North Warren area has numerous opportunities for wilderness camping. In general, camping is permitted anywhere within the wilderness as long as campsites are situated at least 150 feet from roads, trails, streams or ponds. At distances of less than 150 feet, you may only occupy campsites designated by "Camp Here" markers, or in lean-tos, like those located in the Pharoah Lakes Wilderness area.

A camping permit is required to camp at the same site for more than three consecutive nights, and for groups of 10 or more in a single site, regardless of the length of their stay.

State Campgrounds

Eagle Point Campground is located on the west shore of Schroon Lake in Pottersville, NY. With 72 campsites, both tents and RVs are welcome, and activities include canoeing, boating, hiking, bicycling and fishing.

Private Campgrounds

Riverside Pines is located off Northway Exit 25. Both tents and RVs are welcome at this family-oriented campground, which offers wooded sites, a beach, recreation hall, boat rental, dock space and more.

Rancho Pines Campground, in Chestertown, NY, has 54 sites and is located on the Schroon River. Tubing, boating and fishing are offered, and the site will supply mountain bikes for trails nearby. The campground is available for both tents and RVs.

Park Mountain has 18 sites and supports both RV and tents. Boat rentals, showers and recreation hall are all on the premises, and the campground is accessible.
