Dynamite Hill offers daytime and evening skiing complete with snowmaking and a lighted rope tow with handles. This free ski area is ideal for families and those who are beginning skiing. Snowboards and sleds are also allowed. Located at Dynamite Hill Rd. off Route 8, Chestertown. Open weekends and weekdays when school is not in session.
Explore the 2.6 miles of nature trails during all four seasons. Open for snowshoeing and x-country skiing in the winter and hiking, picnicking or single track bicycling during the summer. Parking is available either at Dynamite hill or off of Landon Hill Road. These trails are also part of the Chester Challenge.
Home of the largest cave entrance in the east, explore over 14 miles of well marked snowshoe trails that include view on top and below the stone bridge. Other trails include walks along Trout Brook, around a massive sink hole, next to ledges and scenic mountain top views – including a 360 view of the High Peaks, Schroon Lake and Gore Mountain.
Located just 15 minutes away in North Creek, Gore Mountain offers alpine, cross-country and backcountry skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing in the winter, and mountain biking and scenic gondola rides in the summer. With 79 trails, 11 lifts and a 2,100-foot vertical drop, Gore has the greatest vertical within a four-hour drive of metropolitan New York.
At 2,000 feet elevation, Garnet Hill gets plenty of snow and offers over 55km of groomed trails with set tracks and skating lanes.
