Brief Description: This trail follows Spectacle Brook, crossing it several times on the way to the pond. The
trail ends at a rock outcrop with excellent views of the cliffs on Pharaoh Mountain.
Trail Notes: This trout-stocked pond is located in the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness Area. Along the way you pass
through a thick hemlock forest which blocks out the sunlight. The reasonable distance combined with several
stream crossings make this an interesting hike for children. If you are looking for a longer day, combine this
hike with the near-by Gull Pond Trail.
Trail in Winter: The Spectacle Pond Hike is also an excellent snowshoe or ski destination. Once safely frozen, this pond is a
great place to explore on snowshoes.
Trailhead: Located at a sharp curve. There is a large turn-out on the east side of Adirondack Road.
Adirondack Road is plowed in the winter.
Directions: From the Adirondack General Store in Adirondack, NY, travel north for 6 miles to a parking lot on
the right.
Parking: There is plenty of parking on the wide shoulder of the road.
Distance: 3.4 miles round trip.
Time Estimate: 1 to 3 hours.
Elevation Gain: 295 feet.
