With so many lakes and rivers, it's not surprising that swimming is a favorite pastime in North Warren. There are public beaches on Loon Lake, and at the Mill Pond in Brant Lake with lifeguards on duty from 10 am - 5 pm. The town of Adirondack has the longest stretch of shallow beach, on Schroon Lake, in the area.

Many of the inns, cabins and camps offer their own beaches and boat access. In some cases your vacation rental will come with its own private beach.

The real magic of swimming in North Warren is to be found in the swimming holes not so well known -- river eddies with rock slides, hidden rope swings and rock outcroppings for practicing water tricks. If you ask your hosts for directions, and promise to keep it quiet, they'll help you to discover some of your own favorites.

To get you started, we'll tell you about Gull Pond, a gem for family outings. It can be reached via the access road on East Shore Drive in Adirondack. It's an easy one-mile hike that is well worth the effort. There are rocks for jumping or diving that are virtual cliffs to younger swimmers, and "islands" to explore in swimming range.
